Dido & Aeneas Opens Tonight!

One of the most anticipated events of this year’s festival opens tonight. Opera lovers are going to love it. And for those of you who are not opera lovers? Well, “If you’ve never been to an opera,” wrote The Irish Examiner, “this production of Dido and Aeneas is a good place to start.” There you go!
This critically lauded version of the tragic classic story of Queen Dido and her Trojan lover Aeneas hits the Watergate Theatre tonight in what has been described as a ‘punk baroque delight’. It’s a sexed up show that takes place in a Gothic world with a steam punk style, a totally fresh reimagining of a 300 year old opera by Cork Opera House. From what we’ve seen so far it looks absolutely amazing and should be the combined musical/theatrical highlight of the festival for sure.

This is the one for people who want to see something a little bit different at this years festival and as you can see from the videos and photos here, it’s not your typical opera, not by any means.
Tonight’s opening of the show is also followed by a post show talk which will definitely be worth catching for an insight into this daring production. There’s only two nights to see it, so don’t hang around!
