PRESS RELEASE on the close of the festival
Hi there,
We thought you might be interested to read what the press received today at the close of the festival.
Our super-human in-house team of bloggers will be giving their own insider round-up of the highlights for them of the 2010 KAF in the coming days, as well as releasing further podcasts and audio clips from events that took place during the festival. In the meantime, here are some facts, figures and highlights from the festival this year. Plus, some great pix from the brilliant Tumle Circus, who performed earlier today (photos by Dylan Vaughan).
... and don't forget - it ain't all over yet!! You can still catch theatre in the form of the show that made John Morton want to go home and dance with his ma - Susan & Darren - and music in the form of the much anticipated Tindersticks gig, with support from 3ekpano, plus the chance to party out the end of the festival in style with Scullion. There's also some fantastic visual art still on display including work by Turner prize nominee Susan Philipsz, Willie Doherty, Tony O'Malley and many more. Catch it all while you can. What are you sitting in front of your computer for?!

This was my first experience of the Kilkenny Arts Festival, and I found it very impressive. The whole town/city seemed to be involved and there was a great buzz. The design and layout of the brochure made it easy to see at a glance the what when and where of every event, and the number and variety of events and exhibitions was amazing. Sincere congratulations to all the organisers.
As a participant in the Festival Chorus from outside Kilkenny, it was particularly helpful that it was possible to get a special rate over the week - full marks to the Club House Hotel for friendly service. And convenience!
The inclusion of a choral concert is a brilliant idea. The Festival Choir on this occasion attracted members from nine different counties, and one person from the UK; some belong to big choirs, some to small, some to chamber choirs, philharmonic choirs, gospel choirs, church choirs; perhaps a few professional musicians, but mostly amateurs who have never sung together before in that specific grouping. It is the magic of a choir that a group that may not boast any ‘superb’ voices may collectively produce a superb sound, particularly with good leadership, as was certainly certainly the case under the baton of Fergus Sheil. I am sure that every member of that ad hoc choir was greatly enriched by the experience, and that the Festival was also enriched. The headline for Michael Dervan’s review was ‘A choral blaze of glory’. Hopefully future Festivals will keep the choral flame alive.
