Preview: Tabernacle
Tabernacle, the new dance piece from Fearghus Ó Conchúir, takes a thoughtful look at changing attitudes to religion in a country whose identity was defined by it for so long.
When it premiered at the Dublin Dance Festival earlier this year, Tabernacle caused quite a stir amongst critics and fans alike.
While most went in with preconceived expectations of what story Ó Conchúir’s piece would tell, the majority left surprised at how honest and personal this piece is without ever confronting the audience with definite concepts of what the Catholic Church should mean to them. Instead, Tabernacle allows the audience to engage with the piece in any number of ways.
This show is brought to Kilkenny with thanks to Project Arts Centre, with the support of the Arts Council, Dance Ireland, Modul Dance, the Culture Programme of the EU and with funds from Dublin Dance Festival’s 2011 Co-production Initiative.
