It was supposed to be a one-off. Last year, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre came to Ireland for the very first time, bringing its uproarious production of As You Like It to Kilkenny. But after playing to packed audiences in the Castle Yard for nine glorious – and occasionally less glorious – summer nights, the response was so overwhelming that we had to have them back.

In just three years, the Kilkenny Arts Festival Chorus has established itself as one of the must-see events in our annual programme, drawing packed crowds to St Canice’s for its spectacular end-of-festival performances. But this year we’ve gone further – much further! To mark our 40th birthday, and to celebrate The Gathering, Kilkenny Arts Festival has flung open its doors and invited singers from all over the globe to take part in our most ambitious choral event yet.
