Laoise O’Brien

How Happy for the Little Birds

A concert of music featuring works by Praetorius, Weelkes, Byrd, O'Cathlain, Dowland, Cornysh, Ravenscroft and traditional settings.

Mixing traditional Irish melodies with early English songs, this delightful programme takes us through a year in the life of birds. Early music specialist (and Kilkenny resident) Laoise O’Brien is joined by some of Ireland’s top musicians from both the classical and traditional worlds to celebrate these avian airs.

The concert is part of a multi-disciplinary project with artist Lorna Donlon, and an exhibition of craft works inspired by the repertoire will be displayed throughout the festival in Gallery 3G, Castle Yard, where Lorna and Laoise will also run a birdsong workshop for children.

Featuring:

John Feeley (guitar)

Sarah Groser (viola da gamba)

Niamh McCormack (soprano)

Odhran O Casaide (fiddle)

Francesco Turrisi (percussion)
