The Hole in the Wall is the inner house of Archers’ Mansion constructed in 1582. It was conferred by the crown to the Duke of Ormonde estate in 1660 and sold by the second duke in 1701. Thereafter it functioned as a tavern or supper-house and was frequented by the gentry including the future Duke of Wellington in the 1780s/90s. It has recently been restored and furnished according to its historical timeline
