Art collective Na Cailleacha made waves earlier this year when they staged a full-scale re-enactment of Raphael’s famous painting, School of Athens, in Trinity College.
Titled School of Hibernia, the image offers a powerful riposte to patriarchy, replacing Raphael’s male thinkers with a diverse array of 50 contemporary Irishwomen who have made significant contributions to the sum of human knowledge. For this special event, curator and art writer Catherine Marshall, a member of Na Cailleacha, delivers a talk exploring the project, with special guest saxophonist Carole Nelson.
