Two of Ireland’s most exciting young talents join forces in this mouthwatering programme spanning a century of music. Pianist Michael McHale has established himself on the international stage as an outstanding soloist and chamber musician, performing with the likes of James Galway and Dame Felicity Lott, while Kilkenny’s own Patrick Rafter – who at the age of 17 won all three senior competitions at the Dublin RDS Feis Ceoil – now ranks ‘amongst the greatest violinists’ (Alexander Baillie), mentioned in the same breath as Maxim Vengerov, Itzhak Perlman and Nigel Kennedy.

For this afternoon concert in St John’s they explore a quartet of fin de siècle gems, from César Franck’s late masterpiece, the Sonata in A, to Eugène Ysaÿe’s Bach-inspired Sonata No. 3 and Debussy’s last major composition, the Sonata for Violin and Piano.
