Two of Ireland’s most exciting young talents join forces in this mouthwatering programme spanning a century of music. Pianist Michael McHale has established himself on the international stage as soloist and chamber musician, performing with all of Ireland’s leading orchestras, and collaborating with the likes of James Galway and Dame Felicity Lott, while Kilkenny’s own Patrick Rafter burst onto the classical scene after winning all three senior competitions at the Dublin RDS Feis Ceoil at the age of 17.

For this afternoon concert in St John’s they explore a quartet of fin-de-siecle gems, from César Franck’s late masterpiece, the Sonata in A, to Eugène Ysaÿe’s Bach-inspired Sonata No. 3 and Debussy’s last major composition, the Sonata for Violin and Piano.
