Evan Davis is the main presenter of BBC2’s Newsnight and Dragons’ Den. Previously he was a presenter of the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 and spent seven years as the Economics Editor of the BBC.
The Hubert Butler Annual Lecture was established by the Festival in 2007 to honour the Kilkenny writer, historian and broadcaster whose remarkable consistency of vision and clarity of mind made him unique among 20th century essayists.
About Hubert Butler
Hubert Butler is recognised as one of the finest essayists of the 20th century. Born in Co Kilkenny in 1900, he fought throughout his long life, both in Ireland and across Europe, for human dignity, independent thinking and cosmopolitan values. Collections of his essays, published by Lilliput Press, include Escape from the Anthill (1985) and The Children of Drancy (1988). Butler died in his beloved Kilkenny in 1991.
