Directed by their chief conductor, Thomas Zehetmair, the Irish Chamber Orchestra presents a characteristically eclectic programme that mixes new work with traditional favourites, including Vaughan Williams’ gorgeous, ethereal Fantasia and Mozart’s heartbreaking Symphony No. 40.
At the heart of the concert is the Irish premiere of a new work by the multi-award-winning composer Errollyn Wallen. Inspired by traditional dance forms like the sarabande and the waltz, Dances for Orchestra is a ‘revelation’ (Bachtrack), a suite of contrasting dances filled with infectious melody and propulsive rhythms.
