‘When you start with songs this impressive, it’s hard to go wrong’ wrote Rolling Stone of Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, the 1998 album that ensured Lucinda Williams’ place in the pantheon of country greats. In a career spanning four decades, Williams has seldom gone wrong, writing and performing a string of classic songs, spearheading the Americana movement and earning three Grammys on the way. This year Williams is celebrating 40 years in the business with her ‘Keep Me With the Good Souls’ tour, and we’re thrilled to welcome her to Kilkenny, accompanied by her crack three-piece band and armed with a hatful of songs spanning her dazzling career, including tracks from Good Souls Better Angels, a new album embracing everything from earthy blues to punk-inflected rock, and tailor made for these turbulent times.
