Superstar violinist Mari Samuelsen joins the RTÉ Concert Orchestra to close out KAF24 with this exciting performance featuring Nils Frahm’s exhilarating Hammers, Arvo Pärt’s celebrated Fratres, and Max Richter’s Vivaldi – The Four Seasons Recomposed.
First performed in 2012, Richer’s ‘recomposed’ version of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons is a far cry from the usual classical ‘remixes’. Richter discarded 75% of the original work and recast the rest into loops and phrases that thrive on the tension between Baroque and contemporary styles. The result is both familiar and strange: a masterpiece made new for our age, and the perfect way to end this year’s celebration of music old and new.
