Located on Bateman Quay beside the River Nore, The Tea Houses are a collection of historic riverside buildings dating from the early 19th century. Originally known as “Pleasure Houses”, they were designed as places of leisure where visitors could enjoy afternoon tea and the riverside setting. With their distinctive architecture and connection to Kilkenny’s social history, the Tea Houses remain a unique part of the city’s heritage.

Accessibility
One tea house is wheelchair accessible. One tea house has 4 steps, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs.

This is the first tea house. It is located on the river bank by the Dunnes Stores. This tea house is wheelchair accessible.
The second tea house is located just behind the first, as shown in this picture. This tea house is not wheelchair accessible, as it has steps at the entrance.
