Created by Elaine McCague, co-Creative Director of Loosysmokes (whose shows have thrilled Festival audiences in recent years), Anchorpoint is an ambitious, genre-defying performance that takes the language of the circus into poetic new terrain.
Using high-skilled aerial rope work and the Knothead technique, which uses the strength of the performer’s hair to bear weight, a group of performers explore a world of unstable rigging systems, suspended sculptural elements and shifting counterweights. Their hair becomes both tether and lifeline, allowing the body to suspend itself in unfamiliar positions.
In a world increasingly disconnected from the body, Anchorpoint challenges expectations of physical strength, femininity and control, imagining a new kind of coexistence, complex and interconnected.
