Multidisciplinary performance maker Luke Casserly grew up beside a bog in Co. Longford, and that formative experience – together with the end of the peat harvesting industry in Ireland – inspired this highly original performance that takes audiences on a journey into the Irish bog landscape.
Seated around a table filled with peat, twigs and moss, audiences explore the feel and smell of a Midlands bog from multiple perspectives. Casserly collaborated with renowned perfume maker Joan Woods to create a unique distillation of the bog as the starting point for an encounter which looks at our relationship to place.
At once intimate and expansive, Distillation is an intense multi-sensory experience that redefines immersive theatre and delves deep into the tensions between environmental recovery and economic decline.
