The Black Abbey
The Church and Priory of the Most Blessed Trinity, Black Abbey, Kilkenny was founded in 1225. The Black Abbey derives its name from the Black Friars, as the Dominicans were called. It was considered a tranquil spot, as it fell outside the walls of Kilkenny City. After many turbulent years, the abbey was restored and opened as a public place of worship in the 1800s. It is the longest standing originally established foundation of all priories in Ireland.
Parking
There is a small paid public car park at the Black Abbey with more parking close by on Dean Street.
