Since meeting at Yale, Timo Andres and David Kaplan have built stellar careers as pianists – and, in Andres’ case, as a composer – both celebrated for their interpretations of contemporary classical works. For KAF26 they join forces to present a pair of exciting lunchtime concerts exploring pieces by celebrated composers like John Adams, Steve Reich, and Meredith Monk alongside a new generation including Gabriella Smith and Andres himself.
At the heart of both concerts is Equal, a new piece from Donnacha Dennehy, specially commissioned to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Dennehy has been based in New York for some years, and the piano duet is the perfect vehicle for exploring the complex emotional space for immigrants everywhere, caught between the new world and home.
